Project Sites

Aeolis has clustered its investigative sites into 5 regional areas — Vancouver Island, Peace Region North, Peace Region Mid, Peace Region South and Alberta.

Peace River: Aeolis has done extensive research and analysis on the wind regime in the Peace River region of British Columbia.

This region has been recognized by Garrad Hassan, BC Hydro, the wind industry and investors as having world class wind energy production potential.

The unique aspects of the Peace Region include a consistent unidirectional wind flow that focuses wind energy, as well as a series of high and low ridges that face perpendicular to the wind flow allowing for three things:

Sites

Peace Region North

Butler Ridge East
Cypress Creek Ridges

Halfway River
Northern Peace Foothills
Pink Mountain
Horseshoe Creek
Hackney Ridge

Peace Region South

Thunder Mountain
Mount Hamelin
Mount Ptarmigan

Peace Region Mid

Bear Mountain
Elephant Ridge

Kiskatinaw Ridge

Vancouver Island

Malcolm Island
Amor de Cosmos
Adam River

  • As the wind comes up to the ridges is has a "speed up" effect increasing the energy potential on the top of the ridges;
  • The ridge perpendicular to the wind flow allows for a linear development along the ridge; and
  • The fact that the resource occurs in the Peace Region allows for "shaping" the massive hydro resource located nearby. Shaping means the flow from the dams can be reduced when wind is producing energy in the region. Essentially wind energy can be utilized instead of depleting the water behind the dams, allowing them to remain full and store water for low water years.

Vancouver Island: Aeolis has investigated public lands in the Vancouver Island coastal region. This region has also been recognized as having world class wind potential.  Aeolis believes there are concerns around icing at higher elevations in the region and has therefore looked for areas/sites that are at sea level. Additionally, denser air at sea level also increases the output of wind energy compared to thinner air at higher elevations. To date, areas that Aeolis has secured investigative permits for in this region are at sea level and close to the water , particularly in Johnstone and Queen Charlotte Straits, to take advantage of the natural Venturi effect found there.

Alberta: Aeolis is currently investigating areas in the South, Mid and North of Alberta. Alberta has been successful in introducing wind energy into their grid system. Watch this space for developments.
