Aeolis Expertise
Aeolis Wind Power Corporation brings together Canadian and International expertise in wind development including past wind energy development experience, successful business practices, intensive wind analysis capability, and community involvement. Specialization unique to Aeolis’ approach includes:
In-house technical and analytical expertise:
Aeolis’ in house capability to analyse terrain and meso-climate data has provided us with a distinct advantage in prospecting and securing lands most appropriate for further wind testing and development. Some samples of our capacity include:
- Aeolis makes extensive use of Geographic Information System (GIS) technology to identify and analyse potential sites. Site visits and an extensive collection of aerial photos assist in further narrowing prospective sites.
- Aeolis uses WindPro and WindSim to run regional meso and micro models with data obtained from BC Hydro, Environment Canada, light-houses data, and ground data from 20+ proprietary meteorological tower sites in British Columbia. Additional data has also been secured from Helimax, True Wind Solutions, and the Canadian Wind Atlas. This provides Aeolis with a strong sense of regional flows and excellent indicators for potential wind sites.
- Aeolis has an excellent Wind Testing Program that utilizes NRG 60m and 50m meteorological towers as well as Sodar (Sonic Detection And Ranging) to provides a wind/energy profile for specific sites we currently hold under investigative permit. Aeolis has engaged Phoenix Engineering and Helimax to verify data and participate in the testing program.
- Aeolis uses WindPro (international site-specific wind analysis tool) and WindSim (dynamic flow model wind analysis tool) for site specific micro-modelling as part of project economic feasibility. Site-specific data is also used to determine wind park models for use in Environmental Assessment.
- Aeolis uses a very sophisticated analysis tool to determine economic viability of individual wind projects.
In-house external relations and development:
Aeolis also has in house capacity to engage with communities, First Nations, decision and policy makers at the initial stages of prospecting and development regulators. This provides distinct advantages in understanding the broader context of various sites early on and throughout their development. Some examples of our capacity include:
- Aeolis site visits to locales to work with local government and community groups to educate and provide information on wind energy and wind energy development. We encourage partnerships, relationship building and participation by communities in the wind development process. In the early stages of prospecting and wind testing, Aeolis endeavours to work with local communities, identifying and coordinating public sessions and presentations.
- Aeolis identifies at an early stage all local, provincial and federal bureaucracies, as well as First Nation Councils. Presenting ourselves and providing information on wind energy facilitates the preparation and development of the processes by communities necessary to ensure competitive completion of excellent wind sites.
- Aeolis actively engages and works with regulators and policy-makers to create and promote a competitive environment that allows wind energy to flourish in British Columbia. We commit resources to this engagement directly through our work in various industry bodies.
- In addition to time spent 'on the ground', Aeolis extensively researches the regions in which it works to gain insight into the community as well as the potential environmental benefits and impacts of wind energy development.
